Best When

An agent needs to read or write HubSpot CRM data for sales automation, customer success, or marketing workflows.

Avoid When

You're using Salesforce, Pipedrive, or another CRM — or if you need HubSpot's marketing automation platform specifically.

Use Cases

  • Creating and updating contacts and companies from sales agents
  • Managing deal pipelines and stages from CRM automation agents
  • Querying customer engagement history from customer success agents
  • Creating and managing support tickets from service agents
  • Sending marketing emails and sequences from outreach agents
  • Syncing CRM data with external systems from integration agents

Not For

  • Teams using Salesforce, Pipedrive, or another CRM as primary system
  • Large enterprise CRM with complex customizations (Salesforce better fit)
  • Non-CRM use cases

Known Gotchas

  • HubSpot object IDs (hs_object_id) vs custom identifiers — always use internal IDs for API calls
  • Rate limits apply per portal (account) — 100 req/10s is shared across all API calls
  • Private app tokens expire after 30 days if not refreshed (newer tokens are non-expiring)
  • HubSpot v1 vs v2 vs v3 API endpoints coexist — use v3 for new integrations
  • Association types between objects require correct association category and type IDs
  • CRM properties differ by object type — contact vs company vs deal have different schema
